Free! Sexual Abuse Prevention Training
FREE Prevention Training For Douglas County Citizens
“Help Great Childhoods Happen”
You are invited to “Join the Movement” to end child sexual abuse! As champions for prevention, we are excited to offer this important training at no cost for adults to join the movement in Douglas County to prevent, recognize and appropriately respond to child sexual abuse.
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. We believe that every child has the right to a happy, healthy, and safe childhood, and that protecting children is an adult responsibility. We also believe that education is critical for prevention efforts and that all successful initiatives start in the local community.
Studies estimate that about 1 in 10 children experience child sexual abuse before they are 18. While this rate that is trending down due to adults like you who have learned to recognize the signs, respond appropriately and intervene when necessary, it is still alarming and shows we have work to do. Child sexual abuse has devastating and long-lasting consequences. Stewards of Children, an evidence based program, focuses on training adults in the warning signs of sexual abuse and in their responsibility to report these signs. Though the subject matter is grim, Stewards of Children presents the material in a way that is empowering, not fear-focused or discouraging.
A compelling video, the core of the curriculum, includes the stories of several courageous survivors who were victims of sexual abuse as children and who have contributed a great deal of time and effort as adults toward ending the cycle of abuse.
